Northern Ireland

Top up grants for small businesses

Some businesses, such as B&Bs who pay council tax instead of business rates, have found themselves outside of the rules for receiving business grants. A new discretionary fund has been launched to help fix this issue.

Time to pay (tax assistance)

All businesses and self-employed people in financial distress, and with outstanding tax liabilities, may be eligible to receive support with their tax affairs through HMRC’s Time To Pay service.

Off-payroll working changes

HMRC has confirmed a delay to the extension of the off-payroll working (IR35) rules, which were due to apply to the private sector from April this year. The rules will now come into force from April 2021.

Getting financial advice from your insurer

Every business's insurance situation is different. Check the Association of British Insurer's coronavirus hub for the latest guidance and information.


How can my business help the current situation?

There are ways for your business to help both local and official efforts. Remember, always help safely.

Donate consumables

Don't let food go to waste – think about how it could be used for others.

Food banks – donate to a local food bank such as the Trussell Trust or Food Share.

Create ready-made meals – perhaps for key workers to collect on their way to and from work.

Create vegetable boxes – use your homegrown produce to supply food for key workers.

Help a local support group

Support your local coronavirus community hub – find out about local hubs by checking your local council website or looking for volunteer organisations via social media such as Facebook.

Covid-19 Mutual Aid UK – find local groups in your area and help support vulnerable members of society.

Provide accommodation
