Named after an extinct breed of sheep, this 16th-century stone-built pub occupies a wonderful location in the Exmoor National Park. Surrounded by many excellent walks, the low-beamed pub welcomes dogs and children, particularly in the school summer holidays when the pub opens all day. This is a pub passionate about beer so there’s always two local cask ales on tap – among them Cotleigh Golden Seahawk and Exmoor Fox – to accompany robust dishes such as home-made chilli con carne; beef and ale pie; plus daily specials and fresh fish.
