Bunch of Grapes
“A gastro pub in the true sense of the word” - AA Inspector
PONTYPRIDD, RHONDDA CYNON TAF
Fondly known as The Bunch, it's owned by Nick Otley, founder of the well respected, but now closed, Otley Brewing Company. Cask ale is king here, clues being the impressive line-up of real ale, craft keg and real cider pumps on the bar, with imported European and American bottles and kegs adding to the repertoire. The wine list is no also-ran, casting its net worldwide. At lunchtime, the menu takes a pub-grub approach with, typically, a Breconshire rump steak with garlic mushrooms, hand-cut chips and peppercorn sauce. In the evening, you might be seduced by pan-fried hake with pea velouté, roasted fennel and samphire; or warm mixed bean and pea salad, chickpea mash, and spring onion and mint salsa. Themed beer weekends, cider festivals, cheese nights and food-themed weeks are held monthly.
