Our View

Sir Walter Raleigh is said to have smoked the first pipe of tobacco in England at this lovely 16th-century pub, the central part of which was once used as a courtroom by Judge Jeffreys. These days, the Dolphin serves great home-made food accompanied by a full range of St Austell beers, plus accommodation. Fresh, locally caught fish features on the daily specials board, and the menu offers a tempting selection of meat (a house speciality is sizzling Cornish rump steak and chips), vegetarian and children’s dishes. Fish lovers should look to the ‘From the Boat’ section for Newlyn crab and prawn linguine; Ratler battered catch of the day; and grilled hake with Parma ham.
