The Fox & Hounds
“A reputation for delicious food” - AA Inspector
A charming Victorian, family-run country pub on the edge of the village, with lovely farmland views, the Fox & Hounds was saved from demolition by the local community. Inside it’s relaxed and friendly with 'country kitsch' vintage and modern decor, and a log burner, and for decent weather there's a sheltered patio garden with vines and clematis climbing a twinkling-light-covered pergola. Well-kept national and locally brewed real ales and craft beers change on a regular basis. The pub grows its own strawberries, gooseberries, rhubarb and raspberries, while a small allotment provides herbs from mint to sorrel, a variety of vegetables and edible flowers. On the British pub classics and modern British specials menu, you'll always find a hearty hand-made pie or traditional pub fish and chips, and dishes such as Thai green chicken curry; braised ribs; and pan-fried salmon. Among chef's blackboard specials, sesame chicken, spicy carrot and apple slaw salad; sea bass with saffron potatoes, creamed spinach and spiced shellfish butter; and spinach and wild mushroom cobbler. There's no children's menu as such, but the kitchen will provide smaller portions from the main menu. A quiz is held every other Sunday evening.

About The area
Hampshire’s varied landscape of hills and heaths, downlands and forests, valleys and coast is without rival in southern England. Combine these varied landscapes and terrains with secluded and idyllic villages, complete with thatched and timber-framed cottages and Norman churches, elegant Georgian market towns, historic ports and cities, restored canals and ancient abbeys, forts and castles, and you have a county that is paradise for lovers of the great outdoors.
If you’re a walker, stride out across the high, rolling, chalk downland of the north Hampshire ‘highlands’ with far-reaching views, walk through steep, beech-clad ‘hangers’ close to the Sussex border. Or perhaps take a gentler stroll and meander along peaceful paths through unspoilt river valleys, etched by the sparkling trout streams of the Test, Itchen, Avon and Meon. Alternatively, wander across lonely salt marshes and beside fascinating coastal inlets or, perhaps, explore the beautiful medieval forest and heathland of the New Forest, the jewel in Hampshire’s crown.
