Our Inspector's view

Highcliffe House is a luxury bed and breakfast in Lynton, overlooking Lynmouth and across the Bristol Channel to Wales. This elegant adults-only Victorian residence also offers panoramic views of Exmoor and the North Devon coastline. While there, experience the peace and tranquillity of Exmoor National Park and enjoy a leisurely ramble through its leafy wooded valleys, timeless waterfalls, and extraordinary coastline. Lynton and Lynmouth, both charming historic towns, are also within easy reach, and you can explore the magical and dramatic beauty of the nearby Valley of Rocks or walk along the enchanting river to Watersmeet. Sit back and relax in the drawing room at Highcliffe House over a nice cool Prosecco, beer, or G&T in the Gin Bar. Later retire in one of the sumptuous bedroom suites and enjoy the silence of Exmoor. As a new day dawns, experience a locally sourced award-winning breakfast from the orangery conservatory with stunning sea views.

About the area

Discover Devon

With magnificent coastlines, two historic cities and the world-famous Dartmoor National Park, Devon sums up all that is best about the British landscape. For centuries it has been a fashionable and much loved holiday destination – especially south Devon’s glorious English Riviera.

Close to the English Riviera lies Dartmoor, one of the south-west’s most spectacular landscapes. The National Park, which contains Dartmoor, covers 365 square miles and includes many fascinating geological features – isolated granite tors and two summits exceeding 2,000 feet among them.

Not surprisingly, in Dartmoor the walking opportunities are enormous. Cycling in the two National Parks is also extremely popular and there is a good choice of off-road routes taking you to the heart of Dartmoor and Exmoor. Devon’s towns and cities offer stimulating alternatives to the rigours of the countryside.
