The pub itself dates from the early 17th century, but the king in question is Edward VII (born 1841), the name being chosen for his reputation as a bon viveur. There are real ales and the likes of fish and chips up for grabs, plus low oak beams, real fires and plenty of character. Its reputation as a dining pub is confirmed by its well-judged output.
