“A family-run pub in the heart of Pewsey Vale” - AA Inspector
The Millstream is an attractive village pub near Devizes, with widely spaced tables in a large garden on the banks of the young Hampshire Avon. Inside, the three log fireplaces make for a cosy and romantic atmosphere in which to enjoy a Wadworth real ale or Thatchers cider, and to enjoy duck leg confit with plum and ginger sauce; double-baked cheese soufflé; pork medallions with green peppercorn sauce; oven-roasted venison steak with wild mushrooms and Madeira sauce; home-made pie of the day; or butterbean and borlotti bean cassoulet with garlic bread. Fish arriving daily from St Mawes in Cornwall later appears on the specials board as, depending on the catch, baked crab pancakes with creamy crab sauce; whole baked megrim or lemon sole with lemon oil. Sunday roasts – topside of beef, loin of pork and chicken breast – are only part of the day's offering, as you could begin lunch with fried black pudding with Parma ham and toasted pecans; then wholetail Cornish scampi; or an 8oz venison burger, with salad and chips; and end with strawberry and blueberry Eton Mess. The resident English pointers, Sophie and Francesca, are always pleased to welcome other dogs in the bar.

About the area
A land shrouded in mystery, myth and legend, Wiltshire evokes images of ancient stone circles, white chalk horses carved into hillsides, crop circles and the forbidden, empty landscape of Salisbury Plain. To many M4 and A303 drivers heading out of London through the clutter of the Thames Valley, Wiltshire is where the landscape opens out and rural England begins.
Wiltshire’s charm lies in the beauty of its countryside. The expansive chalk landscapes of the Marlborough and Pewsey downs and Cranborne Chase inspire a sense of space and freedom, offering miles of uninterrupted views deep into Dorset, Somerset and the Cotswolds. Wiltshire’s thriving market towns and picturesque villages provide worthwhile visits and welcome diversions. Stroll through quaint timbered and thatched villages in the southern Woodford and Avon valleys and explore the historic streets of the stone villages of Lacock, Castle Combe and Sherston. Walk around Salisbury and discover architectural styles from the 13th century to the present and take time to visit the city’s elegant cathedral and fascinating museums. And if all of that isn’t enough, the county is also richly endowed with manor houses, mansions and beautiful gardens.
