About the area
Inverclyde may be one of the smallest of Scotland’s areas in terms of area and population, but it is a popular destination for those arriving on cruise ships to visit Glasgow and the Clyde. The River Clyde sets the scene for the area’s rich history, which dates back to the Vikings and features international trading and shipbuilding amongst its highlights.
Take a peek in its past at Newark Castle in Port Glasgow, one of the area’s three main towns. Greenock and Gourock make up the other two tourist hotspots, and are home to some charming viewpoints and interesting architecture. As well as boasting a lively arts scene and great shopping opportunities, Inverclyde draws visitors to its breathtaking countryside for walking and wildlife spotting.
