Our Inspector's view

Dating back to the 1750s, this former coaching inn is in a pretty hamlet on the edge of Dartmoor. Named after Grand National winners, each of the individually decorated bedrooms has some nice extra touches. The bars are full of character with flagstone floors and old beams, and offer a wide range of dishes, cooked with imagination. The food has been awarded two AA Rosettes.

Devon’s towns and cities offer stimulating alternatives to the rigours of the countryside.
