“Relaxed atmosphere on the tranquil island of Sark” - AA Inspector
Our Inspector's view
The island of Sark is a delight. With no cars permitted, transport is provided by horse and cart, tractor or bicycle, which makes this a very tranquil place. Stocks Hotel has spacious, comfortable rooms, which are attractively appointed. There are several lounges, and a cosy bar, as well as two dining options; the Brasserie is at the poolside and offers alfresco dining, while the main restaurant is more formal. The hotel gardens provide many ingredients for the kitchen, and the stables house the hotel's own team of cart-pullers.

About the area
Sark is only 2.1 square miles (5.44 sq km) and is physically part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, although it does have its own parliament. It is a car-free zone, and relies mainly on bicycles, tractors and horse-drawn transportation.
There is also no street lighting, which means there is no light pollution. This makes the night sky very dark, and stars very clear, prompting the star-gazing group, the International Dark-Sky Association to designate Sark the world’s first Dark Sky Island. The difference between a dark sky and what is usually experienced in most towns and cities in the UK has to be seen to be believed. So, if you’re in Sark for any reason overnight, be sure to spend some time looking at the sky.
