Our View
A dog-friendly watering hole, this lovely 15th-century pub is an ideal place to put your feet up after a long walk with man's best friend (if you have one with you). Close to Wardour Castle in a pretty village, The Forester has warm stone walls, a thatched roof, original beams and inglenook fireplace. Local Donhead Craft Cider is a popular addition to the Butcombe and Otter ales served at the bar. An extension houses a restaurant with double doors opening onto the lower patio area. The pub has a reputation for excellent cooking at reasonable prices, and for its use of fresh West Country ingredients, especially seafood. Dishes are constructed with a mix of traditional and cosmopolitan flavours, crispy crumbed local pork with pickled winter vegetables, black pudding and piccalilli is typical. Follow with a main course of pan-fried Cornish cod fillet, squid ink, butternut squash and hollandaise. Special menus for children and vegetarians are available.
