Tucked away in leafy Maple Road, The French Table is the absolute epitome of the neighbourhood restaurant genre. Pastel shades of sage and cream add a light, fresh look, while dressed-to-impress modern dishes punch above their weight on a fixed-price repertoire headlined by a five-course taster. Witness fillet of beef with braised ox cheek, crushed celeriac, purple sprouting broccoli, pickled Roscoff onions and sauce au poivre. Breads are a triumph, while pastry impresses too (no surprise with sibling boulangerie/patisserie, The French Tarte, bang next door); so think dark chocolate and coffee mousse with caramelised smoked almonds, chocolate crumb and mascarpone ice cream. Spot on service and corking wines catch the attention too.
