Our View
This pub was built in the early 19th century to cater for below-stairs staff and stable hands working in this quiet Belgravia mews near Harrods. With its Dickensian frontage and an interior like a well-stocked bric-à-brac shop, The Nags Head stubbornly resists any contemporary touches. It’s a mobile-free zone, and you are politely requested to hang coats and bags on the hooks provided. Compact and bijou, its front and back bars are connected by a narrow stairway and boast wooden floors, low ceilings and panelled walls covered with photos, drawings, and mirrors; other adornments include helmets, model aeroplanes, and even penny-slot machines. The atmosphere is best described as ‘entertaining’ if you’re in the right mood. The waist-high bar is another oddity, but the full Adnams range is served, along with a good value menu of traditional pub grub – real ale sausages, roast of the day; and chilli con carne.
