The Plume of Feathers

“Friendly atmosphere in a historic inn”
MITCHELL, CORNWALL

Our View
From the impressive pillared porch at this sturdy old Cornish inn, John Wesley preached the benefits of Methodism to farmers and miners in the 1750s. Elements of the old place still survive, with low beams, wood-burning stove and a natural well in the bar blending with the contemporary artworks on display. As the village inn, it's popular with locals who can rely on regional real ales and farm ciders. The airy conservatory is an appealing place in which to dine, while stylish bedrooms provide the perfect overnight retreat. Local Cornish produce takes centre stage on the modern British menu and there’s always a good showing of fish and locally reared meats. To start, chicken, ham and pistachio terrine; advancing then to mains like herb-crusted hake, chorizo, tomato and bean cassoulet. The raised, tree-shaded beer garden is a tranquil retreat.
