The Ship Inn

“Waterside free house popular with sailing enthusiasts”
NOSS MAYO, DEVON

Our View
Surrounded by wooded hills, Noss Mayo lies on the south bank of the tidal Yealm; opposite is Newton Ferrers. The waterside location means you can, if you wish, sail to this deceptively spacious pub, which has been superbly renovated using reclaimed local stone and English oak. Log fires, wooden floors, old bookcases and dozens of local pictures characterise the interior spaces. The cellar keeps a good range of beers, mostly from brewers that know the Ship well. Whether eating in the bar, panelled library or by the river, daily-changing home-made dishes include starters like grilled flat mushroom topped with Welsh rarebit, or chicken liver pâté with red onion marmalade and toast; and mains such as seared scallops with bacon and sautéed potatoes; or oven-baked cod with smoked haddock and saffron chowder. For chicken curry and rice; steak and kidney pie; or ploughman's and baguettes, see the bar menu. Dogs are allowed downstairs.

About the area
Discover Devon
With magnificent coastlines, two historic cities and the world-famous Dartmoor National Park, Devon sums up all that is best about the British landscape. For centuries it has been a fashionable and much loved holiday destination – especially south Devon’s glorious English Riviera.
Close to the English Riviera lies Dartmoor, one of the south-west’s most spectacular landscapes. The National Park, which contains Dartmoor, covers 365 square miles and includes many fascinating geological features – isolated granite tors and two summits exceeding 2,000 feet among them.
Not surprisingly, in Dartmoor the walking opportunities are enormous. Cycling in the two National Parks is also extremely popular and there is a good choice of off-road routes taking you to the heart of Dartmoor and Exmoor. Devon’s towns and cities offer stimulating alternatives to the rigours of the countryside.
