In the Old Town, just a short stroll from Clapham Common tube, Adam Byatt’s high-riding neighbourhood restaurant “is the kind of place you can take your heart and never be let down”. The open, street-level dining room is smart in pastel tones, complete with open-to-view kitchen and outside terrace, while the wised-up service team maintain a sunny natured, relaxed mood. Byatt’s inventive, light, modern European cooking has its feet firmly grounded in French classicism, driven by deceptive simplicity, balance and layers of flavour, with saucing that raises the bar; take sardine bolognese raviolo with a ‘knockout’ tomato butter sauce and basil, while to finish, perhaps salted caramel custard tart.
