Sherborne Museum features a model of the town's original Norman castle, as well as a fine Victorian doll's house and other domestic and agricultural bygones. There are also items of local geological, natural history and archaeological interest, including Roman material. The Sherborne Missal, one of the greatest medieval manuscripts, can be seen using the latest digital technology. Other highlights include a medieval wall painting, items from the silk, gloving and button industries, and a unique botanical art collection.
About the area
Dorset is made up of rugged coastlines, high chalk downlands and a chain of picturesque villages and seaside towns that make up Britain’s Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, noted for its layers of shale and numerous fossils embedded in the rock. Hidden gems of Dorset can be found down winding, country lanes that lead to snug villages hidden from view.
