Newbus Grange Country Park★★★★★
"A nature lovers’ paradise"
Overview
The 12 acres of grounds and gardens that are today’s Newbus Grange Country Park, were originally a manor house’s rose garden. The park owns fishing rights for the stretch of the River Tees that meanders alongside; there’s also a children’s play area and an outdoor heated pool. Medieval Raby Castle, and the Head of Steam Museum in Darlington ought to be on your must-visit list.

About the area
County Durham reaches halfway across England, from the North Pennines in the west, to the sea in the east. Much of it is very sparsely inhabited, and is naturally beautiful; a mix of rolling hills, monumental valleys, lush farmland and unforgiving moors.
