Bant's Carn Burial Chamber and Halangy Down Ancient Village

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
On a cliff top a mile north of Hugh Town with views of the sea, this Bronze Age burial mound has an entrance passage and inner chamber and makes for a good walk on a breezy day. On the slopes below it are the remains of an Iron Age settlement that was used for around 500 years until the end of the Roman period. The burial mound was excavated in the 1900s but was found to be almost empty; it’s thought that it was originally over 13 feet high. The English Heritage website has a short audio tour available for downloading to MP3 players, iPods and iPhones to accompany a walk around these ancient monuments.
