Standing defiantly above the restless waves in an impressive location on the spectacular Lizard peninsula, the granite-built Housel Bay Hotel dates back to the 19th century. The restaurant, Fallowfields, is light and airy and simply styled, boasting wonderful sea views but no superfluity or distractions from the food, which is the undoubted star of the show. Menus are seasonal, with two tasting options, and as you might expect, local fish is a strength, treated with real reverence. This is cooking which builds anticipation as it moves through the gears, skilfully articulated, with everything on the plate contributing to the success of the whole.
