The North East reach of England is famous for a diverse landscape teeming with history, maritime cliffs and extensive moorland that contains a number of rare species of flora and fauna. Northumberland offers a wide array of history and some of Britain’s best beaches, with a range of walking and bike riding routes to discover and swathes of heather-scented moorland, including Northumberland National Park. Part of Hadrian’s Wall can be explored in the metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear, a county cut through by the two rivers after which it is named. County Durham is ideal for discovering a mix of rolling hills, monumental valleys, lush farmland and unforgiving moors. It also has a rich industrial heritage, and remnants of the now all-but-vanished mining industry are everywhere.
