Tucked away in a fold of the hills in the heart of Hardy's beloved county, this pretty 16th-century thatched village inn is an ideal place to start or end a walk. With its welcoming open fire, oak beams and fresh flowers, it is the perfect setting to enjoy a selection of real ales and ciders and 18 wines by the glass. Food options might include warm crab, caramelised leek and saffron tartlet with mixed leaves or garlic and herb marinated venison steak with a port and redcurrant sauce. The inn offers eight en suite bedrooms, four above the pub and four in the old skittle alley.
