"Food-driven hostelry on the River Hamble."
Overview
With its prime location on the magnificent marina front at Lower Swanwick, Harper’s Steakhouse's ambience reflects the strong sea-faring traditions of this area. It’s one owned by the Upham Group, so no surprise to find ales from its own brewery behind the bar. The food ticks all the boxes too, so a sample dinner menu, for example, details pan-fried scallops wrapped in pancetta, crispy chorizo and celeriac purée; herb crusted cod fillet, crushed new potatoes, purple sprouting broccoli and smoked cod roe cream; and braised blade of beef, carrot purée, buttered kale, fondant potato and red wine jus.
Location
286 Bridge Road, Lower Swanwick, SO31 7EB

About the area
Hampshire’s varied landscape of hills and heaths, downlands and forests, valleys and coast are without rival in southern England. Hike across the chalk downland of the north Hampshire ‘highlands’, meander along peaceful paths through unspoilt river valleys of the Test, Itchen, Avon and Meon, or explore the lonely salt marshes and the beautiful medieval forest and heathland of the New Forest.
