Torre Abbey is the oldest building in Torquay, founded in 1196 as a monastery and later adapted as a country house. It has a story spanning 800 years and was once the most important Abbey of its kind in England. Later a Georgian family home, it is now a museum, art gallery and scheduled ancient monument.
