Overview
A Guildhall has been on this site since 1500, although parts of the building date back to a private dwelling of 1320. The Guildhall has been the home of civic governance in Beverley for over 500 years. The building was re-modelled in the 18th century and features a stunning courtroom with ornate plasterwork by Giuseppe Cortese, a Magistrates' Room with original 17th-century furniture and an elegant parlour with a silver collection dating back over several centuries. Two community museum rooms feature displays on the history of Beverley and a programme of temporary local history exhibitions.
