Balvenie Castle

Overview
The ruined castle was built in the 13th century, and was the ancient stronghold of the Comyns, then the Douglases, then the Stewarts. The last of these converted it into a stylish residence in the 16th century. It has a massive curtain wall, and an iron yett - a two-part iron cross-barred gate behind the main entrance.
