Overview
Veddw House Garden is five miles northwest of Chepstow, and was created by gardener and gardening writer, Anne Wareham, alongside her husband Charles, a garden photographer. Altogether there are four acres; two of ornamental garden and two of woodland. There is also an enchanting reflecting pool. The garden is a mixture of planning and nature, with areas of ancient grassland incorporated into the design. Among the features at Veddw House are an orchard, a windfall garden, a hazel coppice, and a forest that includes an unusual TV room. Photo credits: all photos - Charles Hawes

About the area
In their bid to control the borderlands of Monmouthshire – also known as the Marches – the Normans built a triangle of castles: Grosmont, Skenfrith and White. At first, they were simple wooden structures strengthened by earthworks, but when the lively Welsh refused to stop attacking them, it was decided more permanent fortresses were needed.
