Overview
Founded in 1524, this is Oxford’s largest and most-visited college. It has both the biggest quadrangle and and England’s smallest cathedral. Christ Church Cathedral, which predates the college, serves as its chapel. Within the great hall, you’ll find features familiar from the Alice in Wonderland stories. That’s because former Christ Church don Charles Dodgson (1832–98) is better known as Lewis Carroll. Christ Church’s Ante Hall was the inspiration for Hogwarts’ great hall in the Harry Potter movies.Christ Church Picture Gallery is the only public gallery owned by a single college in either Oxford or Cambridge. Its collection of 300 paintings includes Italian Old Masters – among them Tintoretto, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Carracci.
