Kilmartin Museum
Overview
People have lived in the Kilmartin area for thousands of years, gradually shaping the extraordinary landscape you see today. More than 800 prehistoric and historic sites lie within six miles of this quiet village; burial cairns, rock-carvings, standing stones, stone circles and the fortress of the earliest Scottish Kings, medieval castles, ancient gravestones depicting warriors, early Christian crosses and deserted croft houses. This remarkable concentration and diversity of ancient sites is celebrated at Kilmartin House Museum. Explore enigmatic monuments, see ancient objects and learn more about the people who made them.

About the area
This is a county that’s all about awe-inspiring landscapes and unique island cultures. Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney put the area on the map when he wrote Mull of Kintyre, recorded in 1977 with the local pipe band backing his group.
