Montagu’s Mews
"Assured seasonal dishes in luxurious Georgian property."
Overview
Montagu’s Mews restaurant takes its name from writer Elizabeth Montagu, the original resident of the house that now forms part of the sumptuous Royal Crescent Hotel, still one of Bath’s most elegant addresses. An advocate for women’s education, Montagu was also host of the Blue Stockings Society and salonière whose forward-thinking attitude helped bring people together in the spirit of enlightenment. Diners can reflect on the unique history of the hotel over pre-dinner drinks in the adjoining bar, or on the peaceful terrace overlooking landscaped ornamental gardens behind the hotel, with heated parasols just in case the temperature suddenly drops. The restaurant has an elegant, easy-on-the-eye decor of pastel pinks and greens and unclothed tables that is entirely agreeable and happily relaxed, the ideal setting for some very fine dining.

About the area
Somerset remains rural and unspoiled, and ever popular areas to visit are the limestone and red sandstone Mendip Hills rising to over 1,000 feet, and by complete contrast, to the south and southwest, the flat landscape of the Somerset Levels. Another popular spot, the Quantocks, once the haunt of poets Coleridge and Wordsworth, are noted for their gentle slopes, heather-covered moorland expanses and red deer
