Around Eyam
Turn right out of the Parish Council’s car park and up to the first road bend. Turn left up The Nook, continuing uphill when it becomes unsurfaced and following its steep and winding course all the way to the very top. Turn right on to the road and walk along this for 250yds (210m) until you reach a stile on the left.
Cross the stile and walk along the right edge of the field with a stone chimney on your right and a transmitter mast over to your left. Go over a stile at the far end and turn right down the unmade Sir William Road, with views of the far-off moors and gritstone edges of the Derwent Valley.  Â
When you meet a surfaced road at a sharp bend go right. Walk along this to Mompesson’s Well, which is on the right just before a road junction. Continue past the turning to Bretton and Great Hucklow and then just beyond the private drive for Hollowbrook Barn enter woodland and take the public footpath through a squeeze stile on the left.  Â
Follow the path through the woods steadily downhill, following waymarkers. At the bottom emerge on to a lane and walk down past houses to the road at the bottom. Turn left along the road, then branch left on to Riley Lane. Fork right at the top of the hill and continue as far as Riley Graves.Â
Retrace your steps and follow the road into the centre of the village, where two of the cafes and other shops are located on The Square. Turn right here on to Water Lane to reach The Miners Arms pub.
Following signs for Eyam Hall and Museum, walk west along Church Street. Go ahead at the junction and past the church and Plague Cottage. The information centre is by the village stocks on the left and Eyam Hall is opposite on you right. Continue along the street and then turn right up Hawkhill Road for Eyam Museum and to return to the car park.  Â
