"Renovated inn with excellent food and own beers"
Overview
The Boot's first occupant in the 17th century was a cobbler who hung a boot outside to attract customers; while mending their footwear he'd offer them a glass of ale. Today there's no point bringing your shoes in for new soles, but ale is most certainly still offered – Clod Hopper, Tuffer's Old porter and Golden Boot are all brewed on site in the inn’s micro-brewery. The Boot makes a good choice for a drink, a meal and overnight luxury accommodation, if you’re looking to stay in this lovely part of the country. The team provide first-class meals, beginning with a champagne breakfast. There’s a beer festival in August.

About the area
The natural features of this central English county range from the modest heights of the Peak District National Park, where Kinder Scout stands at 2,088 ft (636 m), to the depths of its remarkable underground caverns, floodlit to reveal exquisite Blue John stone. Walkers and cyclists will enjoy the High Peak Trail which extends from the Derwent Valley to the limestone plateau near Buxton, and for many, the spectacular scenery is what draws them to the area.
