"Award-winning food in a beautiful rural location"
Overview
The views over the Evenlode Valley from this old malthouse in picturesque Nether Westcote on the Gloucestershire-Oxfordshire border are marvellous. The inn retains its original character, especially in the log-fired bar, where rotating local real ales Hooky or Prescott’s Pitstop can be found. Local produce forms the backbone of the menus, with herbs and vegetables grown in the kitchen garden. Matt Weedon’s food offers a modern take on classic combinations like Cotswold venison with braised red cabbage or roasted halibut with langoustine raviolo. Afternoon tea and Sunday lunch are also served. Individually decorated bedrooms with comfortable beds are available; look out for enjoyable events that run throughout the year, including jazz evenings, flower workshops and a vintage car rally.

About the area
Gloucestershire is home to a variety of landscapes, including the Cotswolds, a region of gentle hills, valleys and gem-like villages that roll through the county. To their west is the Severn Plain, watered by Britain’s longest river and characterised by orchards and farms marked out by hedgerows that blaze with mayflower in the spring; beyond the Severn are the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley.
