"Sophisticated gastro-pub in Winchester’s historic heart"
Overview
It’s hard to convey just how much character The Wyk has. It’s more than a pub; it’s a Winchester institution. Beyond the cathedral from the High Street, with Winchester College as a neighbour, this 270-year-old building is entered from the pavement through curved, etched-glass doors straight into two bars. Both have open fires and are furnished with old pine tables and redundant college desks. Everywhere are portraits and prints, pewter tankards and miscellaneous ephemera.

About the area
Hampshire’s varied landscape of hills and heaths, downlands and forests, valleys and coast are without rival in southern England. Hike across the chalk downland of the north Hampshire ‘highlands’, meander along peaceful paths through unspoilt river valleys of the Test, Itchen, Avon and Meon, or explore the lonely salt marshes and the beautiful medieval forest and heathland of the New Forest.
