"A destination pub with top-notch accommodation"
Overview
Whoever commissioned this private house in 1760 chose the site well, for this elegant Georgian pub and restaurant stands imposingly in Grassington’s cobbled square. Fresh local produce underpins the award-winning menu offering starters of taster slates of tapas-style nibbles; and corn-fed chicken liver pâté with apple jam and warm brioche. Mains might be spring lamb, shoulder and loin, crispy kale and rosemary dauphinoise; or butternut squash and aubergine risotto with truffle pecorino. For lighter options there’s an interesting range of open and closed sandwiches, perhaps smoked salmon, salad, lemon and capers will appeal. Dark Horse Hetton Pale Ale and other local beers are bar staples.

About the area
North Yorkshire, with its two National Parks and two designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is England’s largest county and one of the most rural. This is prime walking country, from the heather-clad heights of the North York Moors to the limestone country that is so typical of the Yorkshire Dales – a place of contrasts and discoveries, of history and legend.
