Overview
Close to an ancient bridge, this delightful stream-side pub dates back to 1710 and retains many charming and memorable features. A dog- and muddy boot-friendly establishment, there are tables outside for summer dining and the spacious restaurant overlooks the water. The menu changes with the seasons but typical dishes include overnight Dales beef short rib braised in red wine with butternut squash, and a vegetarian mushroom and celeriac Wellington.

About the area
North Yorkshire, with its two National Parks and two designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is England’s largest county and one of the most rural. This is prime walking country, from the heather-clad heights of the North York Moors to the limestone country that is so typical of the Yorkshire Dales – a place of contrasts and discoveries, of history and legend.
