Woven by Adam Smith
"Innovative cooking in a bucolic setting."
Overview
Woven by Adam Smith is set within Coworth Park, a Georgian mansion surrounded by 240 acres of beautifully landscaped parkland including private polo lawns. Inspired by nature, the dining room is a sumptuous space in calming autumnal shades of apricot and gold, with bespoke art including an impressive plaster relief of root vegetables. A meal here is certainly a theatrical experience – the seasonal menus take diners on a mesmerising journey, where dishes tell a story using top produce and reflect great attention to detail. Diners can see the snacks about to be served at the beginning of the meal being prepared as they arrive.
These are tantalising mouthfuls to get you in the mood, among them a stunning cheese and onion ‘sandwich’, an apple marigold beef bun, Cornish crab and Thai green jellied eel. Breads, too, are a cut above, a splendid array including Marmite-glazed pain suisse with ricotta and old Winchester cheese, crisp Armenian flatbread and Parker House roll with crispy onions, all served with beurre noisette butter, hummus with pumpkin seed and pomegranate and a miso jam. The staff are knowledgeable and offer relaxed, seamless service while Adam’s creative contemporary cooking is up there with the very best in the country, with modern, innovative dishes underpinned by classic techniques and flavours, all drawing inspiration from ingredients of the highest order. A light-touch starter brings a plump barbecued scallop with sake beurre blanc, smoked roe, Golden Oscietra caviar and date and lemon purée. Main course of Wyndford Wagyu beef is paired with onion stuffed with short rib and wholegrain mustard jus. Finally, the indulgent signature dessert of chocolate, sea salt, crème fraîche and cocoa nibs closes the show on a high note. The wine list is impressive, with a wide range by the glass to encourage diners to match different styles with various courses.

About the area
Berkshire consists of two distinct parts: the western half, which is predominantly rural, with the Lambourn Downs spilling down to the River Lambourn and the Berkshire Downs to the majestic Thames, and the eastern half of Berkshire, which offers plenty of opportunity to get out and savour open spaces. Reading and Newbury are the county’s major towns, and the River Kennet flows through them both
