The Loch & The Tyne by Adam Handling
"Confident cooking of quality local ingredients."
Overview
Located in a charming village only a few miles from the King's Windsor residence, the name of this contemporary pub with rooms is in honour of Scotland and Newcastle – the two places where the three chef co-owners met. Sustainability and hyperlocal sourcing are key here, the style underpinned by solid technique in the kitchen. Start with beef tartare, mushrooms and beef fat sourdough, or the tantalisingly simple-sounding mince on toast, before moving on to quail Kiev, wild garlic and spelt risotto, or leek, potato and cheddar pie. Finish off with rhubarb meringue tart and frozen custard.

About the area
Berkshire consists of two distinct parts: the western half, which is predominantly rural, with the Lambourn Downs spilling down to the River Lambourn and the Berkshire Downs to the majestic Thames, and the eastern half of Berkshire, which offers plenty of opportunity to get out and savour open spaces. Reading and Newbury are the county’s major towns, and the River Kennet flows through them both
