Thames Lido
"Successfully recreates the Riviera effect."
Overview
Reading may be a world away from the Côte d'Azur but there’s a genuine French Riviera vibe at the Thames Lido. The central open air pool is separated by a glass wall from the bar and restaurant where service is relaxed and the modern British dishes are robust and seasonal.
Our inspector loves...
History - Learn about the long history of the lido since it first opened back in 1902.
Architecture - Bristol architects Marshall & Kendon have beautifully this early Edwardian era pool.
Occasions - Caters for meetings, birthday celebrations and lots more.
Food - Menus are heavily influenced by the seasons and available produce.
Swimming & Spa - A choice of packages are offered for a day of relaxation and good food.
About the area
Berkshire consists of two distinct parts: the western half, which is predominantly rural, with the Lambourn Downs spilling down to the River Lambourn and the Berkshire Downs to the majestic Thames, and the eastern half of Berkshire, which offers plenty of opportunity to get out and savour open spaces. Reading and Newbury are the county’s major towns, and the River Kennet flows through them both
