Allium at Askham Hall
"Historic house with estate-grown produce on the menu."
Overview
Close to Penrith, Allium at Askham Hall is situated in the glorious Lake District National Park. Surrounded by 40 acres of gardens along the River Lowther, the light and airy restaurant overlooks the magnificent gardens. Tables are not clothed, which adds an informality, but crisp linen napkins are used. Six-course tasting menus are on offer here, so maybe start with roasted scallop, mussel sauce, garden apple and dill, with the option of adding Imperial Caviar if you’re going all in.

About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills
