Cedar Tree Restaurant by Hrishikesh Desai
"Vibrant and surprising dishes in an elegant setting."
Overview
Cedar Tree Restaurant by Hrishikesh Desai occupies a central space within Farlam Hall, which Joseph Walter and Kathy Mares bought in 2019 after more than 20 years of visits. Set in landscaped Victorian gardens complete with an ornamental lake and stream, and with its roots dating back to 1428, the place nevertheless owes much of its fabric to those tireless Victorian home improvement enthusiasts, whose spirit lives on with the new owners. Their tireless work to refurbish and transform this delightful building has produced a deeply comfortable place, elegantly done out in greys and silvers, its restaurant light and welcoming with high ceilings and impressively opulent period details. Chef Hrishikesh Desai arrived in February 2023 and has put his stamp on the place, with elegant, technical modern cooking with French leanings and spiced with Hrishi's Indian heritage.

About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills
