Pentonbridge Inn
"Vibrant local food in a glorious location."
Overview
Set amidst the rolling Cumbrian countryside, a stone’s throw from the Scottish border, the Pentonbridge Inn is a white-painted coaching inn that has been transformed into a stylish restaurant with rooms. Within easy striking distance of Carlisle, the original building has been extensively converted with the sort of rustic-chic decor you’d hope for in a foodie hotspot. A winning combination of the sturdily traditional is lightened by cool contemporary looks, with a soothingly neutral palette of greys and yellows; exposed brickwork from the original coaching inn, tartan rugs and wood burners all add to the charm. For almost a decade, the team have done a grand job in putting the Pentonbridge on the gastronomic map, and part of that success starts with the produce that finds its way into the kitchen and onto your plate, much of which is grown in the owner’s amazing walled kitchen garden at Netherby Hall, just down the road.

About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills
