Hide and Fox
"Unassuming setting for super ingredients and thoughtful, skilled cooking."
Overview
Sleepy Saltwood in the Hythe hinterland is a most unlikely spot for a restaurant of this calibre. Once a village shop, the old shelving and cabinets are now a feature wall for wine among its simple, minimal decor – navy blue leather seats at wood tables, creamy walls with colourful framed photos, and plenty of light through full length windows. Service is well informed and friendly, and seasonal menus come with frequent tweaks to dishes. Brixham crab is super-fresh and cleverly matched with elderflower, redcurrants and chervil granita, while Hereford beef with lettuce, tarragon purée, pickles and robust red wine sauce is a superb main dish.
