"Finely tuned cooking in popular market town."
Overview
Dating from the 17th century, and with its proper pubby interior exuding earthy charm and period character, The Killingworth Castle still looks the country inn part. An ideal base for exploring the pretty village of Woodstock and the Cotswolds, its wood floors with rugs, chunky tables and rustic art soothe the senses, while the kitchen bangs the drum for local, seasonal and organic produce. Opening the show, a Cacklebean egg with Wye Valley white asparagus, pickled mushrooms and sweetcorn ‘hollandaise’ followed by stone bass alongside crushed Jersey Royals boosted with Cornish crab and samphire. To finish, baked lemon and rose geranium cream is offset by a zippy strawberry sorbet and meringue.
