Monkey World-Ape Rescue Centre
Overview
Set up in order to rescue monkeys and apes from abuse and illegal smuggling, Monkey World houses over 250 primates in 65 acres of Dorset woodland. There are over 20 species, including four groups of chimpanzees, as well as orang-utans, gibbons, woolly monkeys, lemurs, macaques and marmosets. Those wishing to help the centre continue in its quest to rescue primates from lives of abuse may like to take part in the adoption scheme, which includes free admission to the park for one year. There are keeper talks every afternoon, and the south's largest Great Ape Play Area for kids.

About the area
Dorset is made up of rugged coastlines, high chalk downlands and a chain of picturesque villages and seaside towns that make up Britain’s Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, noted for its layers of shale and numerous fossils embedded in the rock. Hidden gems of Dorset can be found down winding, country lanes that lead to snug villages hidden from view.
