Home of Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879), the pioneer Victorian portrait photographer. The house has the largest collection of Cameron prints on permanent display in the UK, as well as a lively programme of photography exhibitions and special events. Cameron is best known for her portraits, which were ground-breaking in their natural, candid approach; many were of friends and acquaintances who were also celebrities of the time; people like Charles Darwin, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Ellen Terry and many of the Pre-Raphaelites. About the area
Small and intimate – at just 23 miles by 13 miles, the Isle of Wight is a popular holiday destination; with its mild climate, long hours of sunshine and colourful architecture, it has something of a continental flavour. Visitors can walk along the island’s varied coastline using the well-established Coast Path or step back in time to explore the island’s history at some of the forts and castles.
