Stoneacre (NT)

Overview
Thought to have been named after the local limestone that underlies it, Stoneace was built in the 1480s by John Ellys. Most of Ellys's original 15th-century, half-timbered yeoman's house still remains to this day. Featuring a great hall and surrounded by glorious garden, orchard and meadows, Stoneacre is full of breathtaking collections of 17th-century furniture, stained glass and decorative metalwork. Aymer Vallance, the last private owner of the house, was an avid collector of medieval sculpture and woodwork and extremely interested in contemporary design. A devotee of the Arts & Crafts movement, it was he who designed much of the stained glass inside the house. In fine weather you can admire the pretty garden and meadow, enjoy a cup of tea and some home-made cake outside by the old stables or perhaps even embark on a woodland walk in the surrounding Otham valley.
Location
Otham, MAIDSTONE, ME15 8RS
