Cromer Museum

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
A handful of 19th-century fishermen’s cottages, one of which has period furnishings, have been turned into a museum of the area’s history and geology. There are pictures and exhibits from Victorian Cromer, a recently updated display of photographs by Olive Edis (Britain's first official femail war photographer) and collections illustrating local natural history, archaeology, social history and geology. A highlight is the collection of bones from the West Runton elephant – a 600,000-year-old fossilised mammoth discovered in the crumbling cliffs nearby.

About the area
The North Norfolk Coast is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and probably the finest of its kind in Europe. Here you’ll find a string of quaint villages and small towns – Holkham, Wells-next-the-Sea and Cley next the Sea are 21st-century favourites, while Sheringham and Cromer are classic examples of a good old-fashioned seaside resort where grand Victorian hotels look out to sea.
