Elizabethan House Museum

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
This super museum, housed in a 16th-century quayside building, tells the story of everyday folk who lived from Tudor through to Victorian times. You can see room sets, including the wooden-panelled Conspiracy Room (was this where Charles I’s fate was sealed?) and the kitchen, which give you a glimpse of how people lived. You can dress the family in Tudor costumes too and discover Victorian life, upstairs and downstairs. Children can play in the toy room, while the adults relax in the delightful walled garden.

The North Norfolk Coast is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and probably the finest of its kind in Europe. Here you’ll find a string of quaint villages and small towns – Holkham, Wells-next-the-Sea and Cley next the Sea are 21st-century favourites, while Sheringham and Cromer are classic examples of a good old-fashioned seaside resort where grand Victorian hotels look out to sea.
